What’s New at the Vineyard

by Chris Mariscotti

Relatives coming into town for the holiday? Dove hunters visiting? The opening day of Dove Season, September 1st, has been a big day for many old families in Madera. To accommodate our long time friends, we will be open for dinner from 5-9 on Sunday August 31st. I strongly suggest reservations. Please call 559-674-0923 or visit us online at

SLOW FOOD NEWSSlow Food Madera

Two big Slow Food events are coming up. This Saturday August 9th, the fifth annual Fig Fest will happen from 9 to 12. This year the event will take place at CSUF near the corner of Barstow and Maple. The Fig Fest has outgrown the site at The Vineyard Farmer’s Market. This site will be bigger, with more parking, shade and grass. As always it will feature figs; fresh and dried figs, fig food samples from the area’s best restaurants, figs trees, cookbooks and who knows what else. We hope to see you there.

That night will be the great Fig Feast at The Vineyard Farmer’s Market. Presented by Trellio restaurant this will be another in the series of great dinners celebrating our Valley figs. The Fig Martini cocktails start at 6 and seating will start at 6:30. The menu is mouthwatering.  Even if you cannot attend, read about it at Some tickets are still available as of Tuesday night. The cost is $135 per person.  That includes this meal with Westbrook and Quady wines as well as taxes and gratuity. That is unless the sales tax is raised before Saturday.

Proceeds from these events are split between Slow Food Madera and the Ron Radoicich Scholarship at the CSUF Ag One Foundation.

Also look into Slow Food Nation at It’s billed as the “largest celebration of food in America. Celebrate, learn and act to build a food system that is sustainable, just and delicious.” It will take place in various locations in San Francisco over this Labor Day Weekend.

Now is the time to make reservations for your Holiday parties. Contact Michele or me for reservations and special arrangements 559-674-0923.

I know most of you have taken your summer vacations. I am just going to start mine now. Next week I will be in what I think is the most beautiful spot in Madera County and maybe the Sierras. Here is the view from there.

We love compliments, unsolicited ones as well as the comments from our friends and good customers. The other night a couple ate dinner. As they left they told me that their dinner had been the best in 14 days on the road that had included dinners in Las Vegas and Santa Fe. Comments like that keep Hector, the chef, and the rest of the staff charged up.

We also just received a double A rating from AAA.

As always we appreciate your business and support. Thank you.
